How to mount Florafelt Pocket Panels to a stucco surface

The vertical garden is mounted to an existing stucco wall so special care is taken to waterproof the connections and provide an air gap to protect the wall from moisture. Work with a licensed building contractor and adhere to local building codes. See: Terms of Sale

First workers prepare the area and mark the treated lumber wall supports.

Next they locate the supports on the wall and use a concrete bit to drill into the stucco.

The holes are filled with silicone sealant and plastic spacers are added to also keep the board away from the wall.

Remaining supports are added and made level.

1/2″ treated plywood is then attached to the wall supports using coated deck screws.

1×6 edge trim boards are then cut and added to the top and side edges only.

Waterproof the plywood surface Florafelt Pocket Panels have a rigid backing that keeps moisture away from the walls, however, they do not provide full protection. Small drips may find their way behind the wall over their life, so it is very important to provide a waterproofed surface for permanently mounted panels.

Because mounting the panels requires driving screws directly through the waterproofing and into the plywood, we highly recommend using a Self-Sealing Membrane:

Self-Adhered Peel-and-Stick Membranes (Recommended): Opt for a rubberized or butyl-based peel-and-stick membrane (such as Henry Blueskin, Grace Ice & Water Shield, or similar products).
Why this is necessary: Unlike standard PVC sheets or fluid-applied liquid coatings, self-sealing membranes feature a thick, gummy adhesive layer. When you drive your mounting screws through this membrane to hang the panels, the adhesive actively grips and tightly seals around the screw threads. This automatically waterproofs the penetration points, ensuring moisture cannot wick into the wood behind your living wall.

For this install the panels were pre-planted in the studio by the designers who also provide a guide to make it easy for the installer to locate panels.
