Sun-loving Succulents and Grasses Living Wall
Northern California based garden design team Planted Places installs a beautiful poolside living wall for a client’s private home in Marin, California.
For a distinctive touch, they mounted Florafelt Pocket Panels on 2x4 redwood lumber attached to the fence. In addition to making a dramatic statement by "floating" the living wall, it ensures the fence remains dry.
Automatic irrigation keeps the plants moist. Two drip emitters are placed at the top of every Florafelt Pocket, positioned to each edge. The placement irrigates the Florafelt Pockets, not the plants. Roots seek the moisture collected in the pockets and grow into the felted system. This unbound approach allows roots to grow into and through the felt, letting the plants reach full maturity, far beyond the efficient size of each pocket.
Planted Places worked with their client to create a beautiful mix of cool and fresh designs.
Starting with smaller plants is not only more economical, it allows the wall to take a natural, individual character. The Florafelt Pockets are elegant enough to highlight the new plantings before they cover the surface with a dramatic cliffside of life.
